Quality of Life
Quality of Life is becoming much more important in economic development. Young people today more and more will first decide where they want to live and then look for a job in that area, rather than follow a particular job opportunity. Starke County's Quality of Life Initiative is a jointly led effort by the Starke County Economic Development Foundation (SCEDF) and the Starke County Chamber (SCCC) to help encourage and provide support to small, local projects that can help make Starke County a better place where people want to live, work, invest and play.
There are so many great things already going on in Starke County and so many great organizations working on these things. One of our roles is to help build partnerships between these organizations. However, we tend to be project oriented, where we are looking to help move a particular project along or help those volunteers clear a hurdle so they can complete their project. In short, we're looking to "find good people who are doing good things and help them do more of them."
Two areas of focus came out of our initial meeting in June 2016... activities that we thought could help enhance the Quality of Life in Starke County. The Bass Lake / Trail Group is working on further connectivity to and enhancement of the Erie North Judson Trail. The Young Leaders' Group is working to bring young leaders from the County together to network and work on activities like WoodStarke (September 10, 2016) and other county wide projects.

Located in Knox, Indiana, Northwest Health - Starke is a 53-bed community hospital committed to providing quality healthcare and patient experiences to residents of Starke County and surrounding communities. Northwest Health - Starke offers adult acute care, emergency services, surgical services, orthopedics, gastrointestinal services, diagnostic imaging and cardiovascular testing. Outpatient programs include wellness and rehabilitation.
