KNOX, Ind., August 21, 2014 – Charles W. Weaver, Executive Director of the Starke County Economic Development Foundation, has accepted an appointment to serve as one of thirteen (13) Judges from across northwest Indiana on the South Shore Wall of Legends and Legends Scholarship Project.The Wall of Legends is located at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond and honors people from northwest Indiana who have changed the world, and reflect the values of exploration and courage, and/or creativity and innovation.This year’s induction ceremony will be held on December 18, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. (Central) at the Welcome Center.Previous inductees have included Nobel laureates, Medal of Honor recipients, and others from many fields.In his role as a Judge, Weaver will help select this year’s inductees from among several who are nominated each year.The induction ceremony also includes an announcement of the winner of the Legends Scholarship, who must demonstrate the same qualities as the Legends inductees, and also celebrates an individual who overcomes challenges and obstacles in the pursuit of a dream of a college education and lifelong learning.
In accepting said position, Weaver noted that. “My selection to serve as a representative of the southern tier of counties is further evidence of the growing impact that Starke County is having in northwest Indiana, with innovative and imaginative programs and solutions to issues facing our area in terms of workforce development and other economic development efforts.”
John H. Davies, the Assistant Director of Ivy Tech Community College’s Gerald I. Lamkin Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center is the founder and now serves as the volunteer coordinator for the Wall of Legends Project.Davies also serves an important role with the Society of Innovators of Northwest Indiana and is a champion of all that is good and unique about northwest Indiana.Stephen G. McShane of Calumet Regional Archives, Indiana University Northwest serves as a consultant with the Project, and BP’s Whiting Business Unit is the sponsor for the Wall of Legends.
Charles W. Weaver has served as Executive Director of the Starke County Economic Development Foundation since August of 2005, after 33 years of practicing law in Starke County, and serving both as legal counsel to the Foundation since its inception, and at one time also serving as its President.In addition to this position, Weaver also serves as a member of the Board of Managers of the Northwest Indiana Forum, as well as its Executive Committee, and as chair of its Economic Development Committee.He also serves on the Boards of the Regional Development Company, the Indiana Economic Development Association, and the Indiana Economic Development Foundation.
