Indiana continues to lead its contiguous states in lowest unemployment rate for the month of April, despite recording no change in that rate from March. The Indiana rate is at 3.9%, which leads Kentucky and Ohio at 4.7%, Michigan at 4.9% and Illinois at 7.1%. The national rate for April stands at 6.1%.
Indiana saw its labor force grow by 145 persons, but overall, private sector employment was down by 600 people. The Manufacturing sector grew an additional 1, 300 jobs for the month. Indiana employment remains down by 118,200 jobs from its peak back in December of 2019.
