The January unemployment rates for Indiana and all of its counties has been released for the month of January 2021. While the state rate decreased 0.1% from December to stand at 4.2% for January, a total of 87 of 92 Indiana counties saw their rates spike upwards for the month. That included Starke County which saw a rise of 0.6% from an updated 5.2% for December to 5.8% for January.
On the state level, the labor force rose by a net 3,803 jobs from December, with manufacturing jobs seeing an increase of 1,400 new jobs. For Indiana's contiguous states, Michigan is at 5.7%, Ohio at 5.3%, Illinois at 7.7%, and Kentucky is at 5.3%.
Starke County saw its labor force decrease by a total of 55 people, with the number employed falling by 111, and the number of unemployed persons increased by 56 people for the month.
The February reports will be released on March 26 for the state and March 29 for counties.
