The Indiana unemployment rate for September stands at 6.2%, down from the 6.4% recorded for August. The labor force was down by 19,691 persons for the month and private sector employment was down by 109,700 for the year and 4,500 for the month. The biggest losses were recorded in the Private Education and Health Services (-4000) and Construction (-1300) sectors.
Indiana continues to lead all but one of the states that are contiguous to it, as Michigan reported a rate of 8.5%, Ohio at 8.4%, and Illinois at 10.2%. Kentucky stands at 5.6% after a drop of 1.9% from August to September.
The national unemployment rate for September is 7.9%.
