Starke County’s unemployment rate for October of 2021 is the lowest in more than 10 years. Local unemployment is at 2.9 percent, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD). That’s a decline of 0.3 percent over September. However, Starke County’s labor force has also seen a steady decline. In 2020, the county’s average workforce was 9,619, according to the DWD. That’s down to 9,518 in October 2021, which is the lowest it has been all year.
The unemployment report only captures active job seekers. It does not take into account people who have dropped out of the workforce for a myriad of reasons, or what those reasons might be.
