The Indiana unemployment rate dropped from 17.5% in April to 12.3% in May, a drop of 5.2%. Indiana reported a gain of 110,780 in the labor force, and saw an additional 90,100 jobs added in May. Manufacturing saw an increase of 18,100 jobs for the month.
Indiana neighboring states also saw decreases in their rates, with only Kentucky seeing a bigger decrease than Indiana. For May, Kentucky dropped 5.6% from 16.6% to 11.0%; Ohio dropped 3.9% from 17.6% to 13.7%; Michigan dropped 2.8% from 24.0% to 21.2%; and Illinois dropped 2.0% from 17.2% to 15.2%.
