The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) took bids on a number of projects state-wide this morning, including two projects in Starke County. The first project includes asphalt resurfacing of US 30 from SR 39 to US 35, and includes repair or replacement of joints on both the east and west sides of US 30 over the Shearing Ditch, plus a bridge deck overlay over the Shearing Ditch. Three bids were received, with the apparent low bidder being Reith Riley Construction from LaPorte with their bid of $5,893,954.08. Also bidding were Milestone Contractors North from Griffith with a bid of $6,671,599.63 and FH Paschen SN Nielson & Associates LLC of Chicago with a bid of $8,999,197.06. Two of the three bids were below the engineer's estimate of $7,475.193.03. This project has a completion date of November 1, 2022.
The second project involves sign modernization along various roads throughout the Town of North Judson, with an engineer's estimate of $189,512.36. A total of eight bidders placed bid on this work with five coming in below that estimate. The apparent low bidder was Michiana Contracting Inc. of Plymouth with their bid of $129,969.63, followed by Hawk Enterprises from Crown Point ($138,489.15), Midwestern Electric Inc, from East Chicago ($173,035.99), TGB Unlimited Inc. from South Bend ($174,007.32), Gridlock Traffic Systems Inc from Indianapolis ($184,405.65), Shambaugh & Son LP from Fort Wayne ($191,228.33), Traffic Control Systems from Knox ($193,316.05), and Specialties Company LLC from Indianapolis ($200,000.00). This project has a completion date of October 1, 2021.
