The unemployment report for January was issued yesterday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development showing that all 92 Indiana counties saw their rate increase from December, in some cases quite a steep increase. Starke County saw an increase of 1.1% which included a decrease in the labor force of 133 persons. All seven (7) counties in Northwest Indiana experienced increases, with all seven also in the top 26 counties in all of Indiana.
Regionally, the labor force decreased in all counties except for Lake and Porter, but the number of employed persons decreased in total by 1,927 persons, and the ranks of the unemployed grew by 2,771.
The report for February is scheduled for release on March 30, 2020.
