Area Development has just issued its 2011 Top States for Doing Business Survey of leading location consultants, which found Indiana in 5th place overall, up one slot from last year's survey. Indiana was the only midwestern state to finish in the top 10 this year.
Area Development asked these site selection consultants who work with national clients to name their top-5 state choices in 12 site selection categories. Indiana was a top-5 choice in 8 out of 12 of those categories. The state finished 1st in the area of rail and highway accessibility, and was also selected as 2nd in leading in the economic recovery. Other top-5 finishes came in overall cost of doing business, incentive programs, business friendliness, corporate tax environment, certified sites and shovel-ready programs, and competitive utility rates.
